He was the first runner-up in Singapore Idol 2006. Now, Jonathan Leong can be seen in Singapore's first circus extravaganza, Voyage de la Vie,    where he plays the lead character The Boy.

The singer-songwriter will also be releasing his debut studio album later this year. Today caught up with the 28-year-old, who shared his thoughts on shopping, his penchant for fashion trends in London, and skulls. Lynette Koh

What kind of shopper are you?

I shop mostly for books, DVDs, comics, music and figurines - I have a pretty good toy collection. I don't often shop for clothes because I have very specific tastes in clothing and accessories.

I know what I want, and I don't experiment with looks very much, so it's hard to sell me things I'm not interested in. Like, you're never going to see me in pink or pastels.

Where do you like to shop?

My favourite place to shop is London. Maybe it's because the country has a real history of rock n roll culture, and I'm a big fan of that style - black, metal, studs, leather, skulls, boots, punk, goth, military, et cetera.

I wanted to buy so many things when I was there last year. I'm going there again in September, so I reckon I'll come back with more stuff. I literally could bring back suitcases of stuff from Camden or Oxford Street.

What is your best buy?

I think my best buy would be my leather jacket, which I got from a dusty, run-down vintage shop in Camden Market last June. The jacket is older than I am. The shopkeeper told me that it survived the huge fire that burned down most of the stores and merchandise there years ago. I liked the fact that it's lucky enough to be around. It's my lucky jacket. I paid less than $100 for it.

What are your biggest shopping weaknesses?

T-shirts of my favourite bands, and anything with skulls on them. Most of my T-shirts are band tees or have skulls on them.

I also have two skull-shaped candle holders that are really realistic, and a skull-shaped telephone. Skulls are the coolest.

What's the last thing you bought while you were shopping?

The last thing I bought was a Thomas Sabo  snake-shaped ring made from sterling silver with black cubic zirconia all over. It cost about $400.
