JOSIE Grove’s sister is to return to the North East to head a team jogging the Great North Run in her honour. Cliff Grove will be returning from his new home in Thailand to run the September half-marathon alongside a team of 20 athletes that also includes Journal reporter Brian Daniel.Each of the team is aiming to raise £250 in sponsorship to aid the fund set up in the name of the fearless Corbridge girl who died of Acute Myeloid Leukaemia at the age of 16 in 2007.Josie’s sister Jacqui and sister Cliff have also reopened the Dragonfly Trust shop in Hexham which sells the dragonfly jewellery designed by Josie soon before her death.Mrs Grove said: “We have had an amazing response from all the people in Northumberland, which has helped us.”Josie, who voluntarily stopped her own treatment to spend more quality time along with her relatives in her last months, declared her need to be able to grant a £500 funds gift to other incurably-ill children across Britain.So far Josie’s Dragonfly Trust has met 190 requests and has formed links with 12 of the country’s 23 children’s cancer wards – including the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle and the Marsden Hospital in London, where Josie received bone marrow transplants.Mrs Grove said: “We have met all funds gift requests made and I’m now hoping that the shop on Hallstile Bank in Hexham will build up to bringing in for at least one funds gift a week.“The Great North Run will also give us a major boost – Cliff is coming back from Thailand to do the run, and they also have a team of BBC runners from London doing it on our behalf.“A lot of people have been delighted that we’ve reopened the shop.“In the tourist season lots of visitors are coming in and purchasing the jewellery, which spreads the word in their countries.”For each gold dragonfly pendant sold, a £20 donation is made; for every silver item, there is a £5 donation.Now,before Jacqui returns to Thailand in September – where dragonfly sales go to the Thai equivalent Wishingwell Foundation – they hopes to appoint someone to run the shop in Hexham.“We’ve had a lovely response from young individuals who have come in voluntarily,” Jacqui added.“Now they need someone to run the shop after I leave.”A COUPLE, who have had ties with Didim for several years, have now turned to one of the resort’s renowned jewelers to add additional sparkle to their wedding in Las Vegas.Lynn Goulding and Keith Goodwin turned to their nice friends Sinan and Müs Akbalaban, at Sinbad Jewellery, on Atatürk Boulevard, to design and make their wedding rings.The couple, who have been together for 18 years and run the Absolutely Altinkum net site, will be getting married in Las Vegas in April 2012.Lynn said: “The rings have been custom made and are stunning. Sinan and Mus, along with the staff, took great care to make positive they got exactly what they wanted although they both selected different rings.“Over the years they have made rings and jewellery for relatives and friends. Their jewellery and service is first class and they never thought about going anywhere else for our rings.“It was always going to be Sinbad’s who would make our wedding rings. They didn't even look at any other jewellers either in the United Kingdom or Altinkum.”The couple met through a lonely hearts column of the Lancashire Evening Post after Keith put an commercial in looking for a relationship. They said: “We did get engaged on my 40th birthday but somehow never got round to setting a date.”It wasn’t until recently they decided to tie the knot and decided to do it in spectacular fashion in Las Vegas. Lynn said: “Elvis will feature, but the marriage will be in a chapel.“My closest mate Julie is going to be my Best Woman and my mate Carl is going to be my bridesman. They think there will be around a dozen or so relatives and friends coming to Las Vegas.
